During this episode of No Laughing Matter with Cuba Pete, he hosts Juan Muniz, a local artist and mental health advocate. They will discuss mental health, the need to normalize that conversation and the power of art in providing a safe space for emotional expression and influencing change in the community.
About our guest…Juan Muniz was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and raised in San Diego, California. He received an Associate’s in animation at Collin’s College and later went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Art in Graphic Design at the Art Institute in Las Vegas. His Felipe bunny art has been showcased in Art galleries, murals, commercial art, and illustrations. Juan was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and has always found it easier to express his thoughts and feelings through art. Juan is passionate about raising awareness to mental health and normalizing that conversation. He does not want to merely talk about mental health, but do something about it. Juan has worked with various healthcare entities and schools to share his message and raise awareness. He serves on the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southern Nevada. Juan’s aspiration is that through his art and new book, I am not ok, that children and families will start having conversations about mental health. Each piece of merchandise sold includes Juan’s story and resources regarding mental health.
